Sierra Hudson is a Senior at the University of Miami studying Double Bass Performance and English. She is a Miami native who has been involved in the music scene her entire life. She has worked with well-known organizations like Young Musicians Unite, Miami String Haus, and Shalala MusicReach. She is an Essentially Ellington recognized jazz bassist and has been ranked as a top classical bassist in Florida through the Florida Orchestra and Florida Band Associations. She has studied under professors such as Brian Powell, Juan-Carlos Peña, Ettienne Charles, Dafnis Pietro, Marcus Strickland, and Bruce Bransby.
She has been in many Frost ensembles, like the Frost Symphony Orchestra, Frost Symphonic Winds, Seek the Source: Thundercat Ensemble, Creole Ensemble, Jazz Vocal I and II, Funk Fusion II: Blues and Roots ensemble, and Bass Desires. Outside of Frost, Sierra has been in two contemporary rock bands, Ripcord and Avalanche, an all-female jazz/latin band named Melvis and the Muses, and is currently building a female-led jazz/contemporary band entitled Pom Party with friend and trumpeter Savannah Methner. She is also currently working on a personal EP of contemporary music as a Senior project. She has also recorded for projects such as: a short film, “As I Promised You”, a video game, “Ready, Steady, Ship”, and a documentary, “News Without a Newsroom”.
She spent this past summer as the Bass faculty at the Encore/Coda Music Camp in Sweden, Maine, teaching jazz, classical, and contemporary music.
She is also currently working on a contemporary/commercial EP entitled "First Go Around" that will be released this Spring! Her 1st single, "Paper Cranes" is out now on all streaming platforms!
In her free time, she indulges in plant care, junk food, creating art and stickers, and writing her fantasy novel.
